Idaho Falls, located in the Snake River Plain, is an important cultural and economic hub to all of eastern Idaho and western Wyoming. With a population of about 60,000, it is the seat of Bonneville County and the largest city in Eastern Idaho. The city's River Walk runs along miles of the Snake River which flows through the center of the town. Due to its proximity to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, along with many outdoor recreation and cultural venues, Idaho Falls has become a tourist destination and has also been recognized by Inc. Magazine as on of the Top 10 “Hottest Small Cities”. Idaho Falls offers arts, cultural and sporting events, a riverwalk, and many summer and winter outdoor activities. It is also home to a symphony orchestra, a minor league baseball team, medical facilities, a walkable downtown, a technical college, three golf courses and a zoo.

Retirees who are looking for a mid-size city that is considered more conservative than liberal, and offers a low cost of living, a low crime rate, and health care facilities may enjoy living here. The Idaho National Laboratory (INL), an internationally renowned nuclear research center remains a major economic engine, and the surrounding farmlands raise potatoes and wheat, two crops that are most responsible for the area's agricultural industry. Idaho Falls is also the location of the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental laboratory.

Winters here can be harsh, although locals say all you need is a good 4-wheel drive vehicle. January's average temperature is just 19 degrees and July's average is 70 degrees. The average snowfall amount is 37 inches.
Restaurants & Cultural Scene
The city boasts a historic downtown with antiques shops, art galleries and coffee houses, and offers a walking tour of historic downtown buildings and the first residential homes built here. The Museum of Idaho is the largest in the state, and the Idaho Falls Art Museum and the Colonial Theater provide exhibits and productions. Idaho Falls is also home to the Chukars, a minor league baseball team affilated with the Kansas City Royals.

The crime rate here is a bit lower than the national average.

Transportation
There is a regional airport in Idaho Falls, but the nearest large international airport is over 200 miles away in Salt Lake City.
